Watch on YouTube: KERA’s Think Podcast Conversation on Turning Strengths into Blindspots
In my recent appearance on KERA’s Think with host Krys Boyd, we explored an idea that surprises many leaders — it’s often not our weaknesses, but our strengths, that can hold us back. We talked about the subtle ways our most trusted skills can become blindspots, and how staying aware can keep us on track.

From workplace relationships to redefining success, it’s time to see beyond the resume.
In our conversation, we went beyond the typical “strengths and weaknesses” framework and examined the deeper psychological patterns that shape leadership behavior. I shared how leaders can unintentionally over-rely on certain skills, narrowing their perspective and losing sight of their bigger mission. These patterns can subtly shift team dynamics, affect decision-making, and even create long-term performance challenges.
We also talked about the skills business school often doesn’t teach — the ability to nurture authentic workplace relationships, set goals aligned with core values, and maintain a clear professional identity even under pressure. My book, Blindspotting: How to See What’s Holding You Back as a Leader, offers strategies to recognize these blindspots and turn them into opportunities for growth.
